Toyota driver Eduardo Osvaldo Amor who shared the Toyota Hilux #410 with co-driver Alejandro Horacio Fenoglio, both from Argentina, lost control of his car and crashed head-on into a lorry, during displacement to the starting line of the 11th stage, between Chilecito, province of La Rioja, and San Juan, province of San Juan, Argentina.

Gravely injured, the lorry driver Marcelo Reales, a 42-years-old farmer, was taken to hospital in Tinogasta, province of Catamarca, where he succumbed to his legs and internal injuries shortly after admission. Amor and Fenoglio escaped unhurt.

The accident occurred at 06h10 on Thursday, 13 January 2011. Reportedly Amor was traveling along the provincial road Ruta 50, in the northern village of Villa San Roque, near Tinogasta, province of Catamarca, when he collided with the other vehicle.
