BBC also reporting it.

That'll make things quite silly indeed.

Good..... I think his star is fading and clearly his future tenure at Ferrari was going to be as #2 to Leclerc. I think his ego will not even consider that after so long as a #1, both at RBR and Ferrari until recently.
It should liven up the silly season. I really cant see Lewis going to Ferrari, which leaves Danny Ric, and they mention Sainz as favourite in the article linked.
I would imagine that Vettel will slip quietly into retirement.
Hopefully this strong rumour will become a confirmed fact shortly.

Apparently the Italian rumour is that Renault has already made Vettel an offer because Ricciardo has decided he's leaving them. I could see either Danny Ric or Vettel replacing Sainz at McLaren if Ferrari is where Carlos is headed.

It is a mistake.

Danny Ric left a Top 3 team for Renault thinking he would have better chances. He was wrong. Alonso also made that mistake and ended up at McLaren for 4 dismal seasons.

Vettel should only be leaving if his destination is RBR or Mercedes. Unless Ferrari have released him of his services, that it ;)

Recently Ferrari have been quite swift to confirm driver changes. I must admit that Lewis in a Ferrari would be incredible to see although realistically I can only see Sainz in there. Ricciardo would also be an awesome option but I’m not sure how long his Renault contract is - and besides Renault are still trying to get back on their feet so maybe he should wait it out. Hopefully we won’t have too long to find out.

Doesn't make sense for them to have Danny Ric unless he took a huge pay cut.

good riddance really. For a four-time champion to make rookie error after rookie error, while having an actual rookie next to him driving like a four-time champion... my patience would run out too, especially given the financial demands.

I'd just like to underline Hulkenberg is a free agent, but for some reason he was not chosen to replace Massa for 2014.
and Alonso is 'free' too, but obviously poisonous to have inside a team.

Hey @PTRACER, time to change the thread title to 2021 silly season?

About time Seb leaves. I can't see him carrying on in F1 next year and run in a mid-field team. If he still has the bug, then maybe sports cars.

he's McLaren bound: fat pay cheque and Mercedes engine.

I suppose he would be a useful asset to McLaren but then again maybe it would be wiser for McLaren to take someone like Danny Ric. Not sure Seb would lead the team in the right direction given how things have evolved at Ferrari. Alonso could also return to McLaren. In any case all of these options would mean that Sainz would go to Ferrari.

Ricciardo had to choose between McLaren and Renault. He can now make the right decision and return to a Mclaren-Mercedes, with Sainz going to McLaren.

Or...

Bottas meanwhile will get the bump, with Russell taking his seat, and Bottas will go to Ferrari, with Vettel retiring.

Or...

I can only see Ricciardo, Bottas or Sainz in that second Ferrari seat.

This is very much like the weird situation Alonso had years ago: having announced in winter 05/06 that he would drive for McLaren in 2007, meaning he would drive a full season (2006) for Renault, with both partners knowing their time together was up.

If Ferrari's car is awful from the outset and decide write off this season I wouldn't be surprised if they bring in Giovinazzi at some point. 2020 is messed up now anyway so may as well give the young driver a go. Similar to what they have done with Fisi.
