aren't that week numbers? that's still nearly 7,000 new cases per day - a big number, knowing that most limitations are no longer in place.

Nah that's daily, see below. Cases are way up in the UK but the high vaccination rate means that hospitalisations and deaths are still pretty low.

No that is daily. That number was the official number for 15th July only.
261,832 cases from 9th July to 15th July is also the official number. That is from confirmed positive test results and is all obviously only new cases.
Not pretty. Out of control. And now no restriction at all.

No, I'm sorry to say that is the daily total, it's been rising for weeks now and they are saying it could hit 100,000 cases per day soon. Terrifying isn't it?

Bad numbers, yes, but what's the impact on hospitals? Are they overwhelmed? I saw that the UK has vaccinated 87.5% of the population with at least one dose. The point is NOT to defeat Covid. The point is to get to a point where we can handle it.

Hospital numbers are indeed rising. Thankfully not enough to overwhelm the NHS as yet, but it's not good. Our death rate was down to single fingures for a while, yesterday it was back up to 63, that's the one day total.

And the USA, with fewer new cases than the UK, reported 344 new deaths.

I work in a hospital, and have been told that this isn't going away. We have to learn to live with it, and with the vast majority of the vulnerable population vaccinated, I feel a lot more optimistic than I did six months ago.

My father was hospitalised last week with a non-covid related issue. Fortunately just for one night.
The nurse which attended to him, spoke of horror-scenes she saw during the Covid-peaks (when nearly all staff had to attend to patients).

I don't know... I'd like to visit my girlfriend/fiancee in the second half of August in Moscow.
Second half, because then I will be vaccinated twice for at least 2 weeks.
But situation in Russia/Moscow is bad now, and very little vaccinated.
Other option is to wait until October, when she is finally moving to Belgium :D

thanks @erwin greven

I tend to say the same. Whilst she is vaccinated, I think true numbers in Russia are probably through the roof (vs. official stats).
Yes, I would go vaccinated, but I don't want to end up being ill there.

With all respects we have a general Covid thread in "Off Topic" to discuss the general more personalised / world issues of Covid whereas this thread was originally not to discuss general issues but driver and motorsport related Covid issues..

Just sayin'....

True. Back to topic.

I think there is an issue with the broadcast here, probably due to the different format.
Our TV station will only show 'Friday-qualifying' at 7 pm local time.

That is indeed live for you, given you are one hour ahead of the UK. Friday qualifying is 6.00m in the UK, 7:00m Europe, and 3:00am Australia.

As mentioned previously that time slot has been chosen so UK and Europe can watch it in the evening after returning home from work, in a bid to attract TV ratings. It seems not to matter they will lose 99% of Asian, Aus and NZ viewers with that timing.
It is all in the race thread, where I posted a full timetable. Here: http://www.the-fastlane.co.uk/forums/vi ... 17&t=17198

As you were saying, back to the Covid and motorsport topic for this thread.
