Lewis Hamilton says he has “not particularly” high hopes for Formula 1’s first sprint race at Silverstone next weekend, predicting it will be “a train”.

Makes sense.

No point risking going backwards. The only people who would push would be those who qualified... errr... pre(?)-qualified out of position towards the back.

Otherwise, why risk it all for a place or two that don't overly matter?
Yeah, people won't risk a damn thing in sprint races if they don't have to. This will be boredom on steroids. If Hamilton openly says this will be a train then you just know how boring this will be :haha:

We will do these three sprint races, then F1 will evaluate it and come to the conclusion that it sucks and that'll be the end of it. Hopefully.

We will do these three sprint races, then F1 will evaluate it and come to the conclusion that it's not great, but they like the nugget of the idea regardless of what anyone else says because they need the extra TV ratings across three days, so they'll tinker with the formula for the next two decades.

Monza confirmed for September:

The Italian GP at Monza in September has been officially named as the second venue for F1's sprint weekend experiment.

As expected, the next edition of F1's trial format will take place at the circuit dubbed the 'Temple of Speed' when F1 heads to Italy for the second time this season on September 10-12.

Brazil confirmed as the 3rd 2021 Sprint race format.

British Grand Prix last month, it was subsequently confirmed that the Italian Grand Prix would host the second edition of the format. Domenicali has now confirmed F1’s Brazilian round, the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, is slated to host the third.

But it gets worse.....

F1 set for more Sprint Qualifying and ‘Historical Grand Prix’ format

Formula 1 is looking at expanding the use of Sprint Qualifying in 2022 along with introducing a special format for ‘historical grands prix’.
So let me get this right.... F1 / Liberty said they would run 3 test events prior to making any judgement on the future of the concept. Yet they are confirming plans to expand the concept after only one of the three test events. :suspicious:
There is also a suspicious lack of any quantitive comment by the fans to say they like it.

It just seems to be rather strange to be making such decisive comments with the experience of just 1/3 of an already small sample to base such comment on. Maybe it is just another Shareholder aimed propaganda comment to show them as being on top of it all.....

Domencali's words of wisdom, justifying their plans to expand so soon....
“At the end of this complete test, you’re going to have a plan to see what will be the next step.

“What I can already say is that after the first Sprint event in Silverstone, the response that we have both from the drivers, from the teams, the media has been really positive.

“Also for the promoter, because if you think that every day we have something new to say.

“So, the outcome of the first event has been dramatically positive, if I may say, and it’s great because that’s brought attention, interest to TV, and also partners.”

The Italian added that a full review would be conducted at the end of the year with a view to its broader roll out in 2022.

“We’re going to have a full debriefing, if I may say that, after the end of the season,” he said.

“We have a plan for the future, of course we are developing that, we are fine-tuning some of the comments that we received.

“What I can say that that if we move – and I think we should, I do believe so – in that direction in the future, for sure, they will be not every race

“We have ideas to create a special format for certain historical grands prix and certainly special awards that we want to offer.”
No word about, other than the tease 'headline' of a "Historical GP Format.

Apparently there will be an announcement leading up to Spa of a new award being set to be introduced... (Answers on a postcard to PO Box 1 Nigeria.) :haha:

Historical GP format? So they are going to let the top 10 drivers from the WDC drive a sprint race in historic cars? I'd be down for that!
I'd vote for the '76 Brabham. GO!

It'll be 100 hundred bottles of fruit-flavoured fizzy water for the pole position winner.

I read a bit more about this new trophy... not much more, but it is to do with a new special award offered by F1 sponsor Crypto.com, backer of the sprint events. Still no idea what it actually will be. Probably some sort of crypto-currency / bitcoins award or similar. :dunno:

Sorry nothing that positive or exciting.... :nah: it seems its not a Historic format, just they are going to bastardise the Historical GPs.... :annoyed: :aggro:
A little bit more about this Historical format they have teased us with..... not that exciting. It seems they (sprint format races) are going to be part of the Historically significant / iconic / GPs...
