Bottom post of the previous page:

John wrote: 2 years ago So what do we have here? The biggest change will no doubt be underneath the chassis, to the floor, converting the cars to ground effects cars.

The rear wing looks to be less advanced too, no doubt with the intentions of reducing dirty air. There seems to be less aerodynamic wings and flaps around the sidepods and floor too - and I think Brawn's intentions is to outlaw these too, no?

Front wing too recieving a major overhaul.
Regarding wings... I guess it's impossible to say without knowing the exact level of flexibility the teams have.

On the generic model, sure, it looks pretty basic. Very few elements and flick-ups. But is that because they're outlawed? Or because they made a few pieces for a car on the cheap? Personally, I hope the buggers are banned.

But either way, the teams will find and exceed whatever limitation they're given.

Isn't the case traditionally that the FIA says "We're introducing radical new rules to improve racing and cut downforce by 30% next year" and then downforce levels end up dropping only 10% come race one, and they're back to where they started by the end of the year.

Any idea what rule change has caused the overall shape of the front wing to become triangular? I remember them saying there shouldn't be flaps and stuff but I didn't realise the shape itself is to change.

I wonder what freedom teams have got these days to come up with stuff.

Are you actually allowed to use both the 'flexibility' and 'wings' words in the same sentence in these erm.... 'testing' times? :dunno: :suspicious:

Could also be a dodgied-up job to make the mock-up look cool, rather than a set rule.

Same thing with the swoopy rear wing.

Not all that much in the 2022 ruleset. F1Technical there is a great writeup on the evolution of the legality boxes. It starts out with as a brick on wheels and in the end looks like a Lego F1 car. As for the front wing, that is mostly the rule of cool, to make the car more appealing.

I assume the triangular front wing is to help reduce drag or help feed the ground effect. I thought all of this was part of Ross Brawn's wind tunnel testing to reduce drag and allow cars to follow more closely through fast corners? Who would have thought ground effect would be back in 2022. Turbo came back a few years ago. What's next? Fan car?

It seems we all should be beside ourselves in anticipation of this.....judging from the email I received.
Don’t miss the beginning of a whole new era: See a full-size 2022 F1 car for the first time this Thursday

It’s closing in. Fast. The new era is approaching, and the unknown will be propelled into the limelight. From 2022, the heart of F1 will beat to a different rhythm. Our gladiators will steer new chariots, and nobody knows who’ll come out on top.

Pull back the veil and join us LIVE on 15th July at 14:00 UTC. Get the first glimpse of the car. As this era draws to a dramatic close, the next One Begins...
A click on the link provided gives more juicy details with things to click on to watch it all live:
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/arti ... 9wKtZ.html
And the new era will officially kick off on Thursday at Silverstone with F1 One Begins, a dynamic event that will take fans on a journey through the ages before arriving at the most futuristic racing car of all-time. (aka the Road to Destruction)

Fans will not only get to see a life-size 2022 F1 car for the first time, they’ll also be talked through the machine’s revolutionary design by a panel of experts, who will explain the thinking behind the new concept, which will enable drivers to race each other harder than ever before.

F1 One Begins will be streamed on F1.com, the F1 YouTube channel and Facebook at 1500 BST/1400 UTC on Thursday July 15.

So set a reminder now – you won't want to miss it!
OMG I cant wait..... :sarcasm: :dunno:

Just as the old era starts looking better they change it for something new and unknown..... :nah:

Im sure I got told about this at school many years ago

If the changes do allow the cars to follow each other much more closely, could DRS become a thing of the past?
