It was Gasly and to be fair, the wing probably got stuck under the nose of his car for a bit (can't be bothered to look up the video right now) which meant he couldn't actually steer. So it wasn't really a downforce issue.

I think his point was that you can't write off ground effects because they don't work when damaged - the same is true of aerodynamics, and that includes when they break and go underneath the car.

Unless I completely misunderstood. Always a possibility.

Yes it was more an understeer issue .... you see a puff of smoke and sparks as the wing slid under the front wheel and off causing a momentary loss of steering, just enough to put him into the gravel and next stop the barriers.

All this talk of two cars cant go through the Monza chicane without crashing is a load of bull really.... its just two aggressive boneheaded has to be now drivers cant do it.

Last year Kimi and Carlos showed how it can be done without totally bailing out. On this video at 5:12 it shows how to do it with class and without tears and tantrums.

Of course as hinted, neither Lewis or Max have the racing 'intellect' and sense of fairplay of Kimi, who admittedly was on old rubber but Carlos went on to finish 2nd.

Others showed it can be done in the race on Sunday, also without tears.
I hate to post a Palmer narrated thing but this one is quite good..... good choice of video clips show Lewis could have done so much more to avoid the contact than he did. You literally see him deliberately close the gap trying to force Max to shortcut. It was not all one way and I dispute it was anything other than a racing incident where both coulda shoulda done more.... if either had brains.

The actual incident here is from about 3 mins in....prior to that it covers their earlier skirmish.

I still don't know why this was Lando's fault in Austria, and Max's fault at Monza according to the stewards

I checked the video of suzuka. It's similar but for the lack of kerbs.

Prost and Hamilton are both about 1/4 of a car length ahead. You could argue they both knew the opponent was there but decided to turn in.

For balance you could say both senna and max made quite rash moves. That's racing

Senna has a more width to play with but it's the sort of move I'd do on the F1 game, he has to slam on the brakes and virtually stop to be able to turn in

Just as an aside to the Max and Lewis bingle at Monza and the raft of people saying how lucky Lewis in to not have had his head removed, even Lewis saying he was lucky, not to mention Toto saying Lewis is lucky to be alive.

Well it seems some are a bit pissed about all the luck he got,,,,, particularly the motorsport director of Cranfield University. He claims it was nothing to do with luck and urely down to science and engineering that Lewis was not seriously injured. Why him in articular?
Tthe halo underwent all or most of it's extensive testing and research at Cranfield University prior to its introduction to F1 in 2018,

So it was not lucky that Lewis had a halo, it was thanks to science and engineering he had a halo.
