Bottom post of the previous page:

Yeah I was the same but went for a 9 in the end.... because Kimi got points and went from 15th to 8th in the last two laps, passing others on wet rubber.

Yes, ultimately Lewis was in the same position, but the call from the pitwall was more forcefull to convinve him to come in. The radio to Lando seemed more like asking him to come in rather than telling him.
The info I heard after suggested that McLaren fed Lando info was that it was not going to get much worse in the next two laps and left it up to the driver, so Lando chose to stay out based on one sector being dry and others more wet and it staying that way.... Lewis was told it was going to get worse and that he should stop as soon as. Of course with hindsight the Merc info was better. The rain increased dramatically
Whoever was reading the radar at McLaren needs his butt kicking.
I did not see the race but from what was shown in the highlights, Hamilton had a massive time gap to the driver in 3rd at the time.
The choice to change tires at Mercedes was a no-brainer. The track was wet enough so Hamilton wouldn't lose his 2nd position, no matter what was happening. The track certainly would not dry up quick enough to render the Intermediates useless.
And if the conditions were to get worse, he would hold the advantage over Norris. Which was exactly what happened in the end and gave him the victory.

A 1/10 here and if it were possible a -10.

???

If only because Norris and Co. lost a great chance at a fine victory and bugger it all, Lewis comes home the winner again. Egad, but he is getting to be a bore.

To be fair and honest, it was an entertaining affair at times and objectively, I'd rate it a 7/10.

Indeed, and I wrote this elsewhere.... I feel that Merc insisting Lewis stop was their realisation that the bottom line was they were racing Max for the big picture rather than Lando for the win..... Max had pitted already the lap prior to Lewis, Merc had a mountain of time up their sleeve, and staying on slicks could well have ended with Lewis in the barriers and facing a much increased championship deficit. Safety first and cover Max was the championship thinking way.

That Lewis also won his 100th race was a bonus but not the job in hand... that bonus was a result of Lando not having any 'big picture' objective beyond winning his first race and the risk that he with hindsight should not have taken. Had the rain not come down as it did he would have been a race winner.

His day will come though.

9 because Lewis won. Fantastic race, undesired outcome sadly.

I want to know what Lewis thought when he suddenly saw Max' car on the second spot in Parc Fermé.

Thank God I listened to the team rather than my head did as I was told and pitted

Had to go with a 10. I find it hard not to say 10, when a race wants me to re-watch it immediately. The only thing that let it down for me was the TV direction. But when is that ever perfect? And what chaos, it would have been impossible to follow everything that was happening.

I don't know. Long Beach 1983 was a "10." Not sure this qualifies.

Do we have a thread on the greatest F1 races in the last 70+ years?

It's all relative to the viewer. I probably give out a 10 about every 4 years or so. I think I've only given a 1 twice.

I have Long Beach '83 on VHS somewhere in a box.

I was there. I think that is the only "10" race I have seen in person.

Do we have a thread on the greatest F1 races in the last 70+ years?
Not exactly. We have a short 3 page thread on people's favourite F1 races they actually watched (e.g. I cannot vote for a race that happened before I was born), but not so many people replied to it.

We have been doing the "Rate the race" threads since 2006. We missed a few in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but generally these are the top five races with the most amount of 10/10 votes:

Hungary 2006 - 79% voted 10/10
Brazil 2008 - 53% voted 10/10
Europe 2007 - 52% voted 10/10
Monaco 2008 - 41% voted 10/10
Germany 2019 - 38% voted 10/10

I'm currious which thread you are refering to as I could not find it. The closest I could guess is this thread: The world's current greatest motor race?

You can see a few of the "best of..." and "favourite" style threads here:
viewtopic.php?f=86&t=14789

The thread I was referring to = "Your favourite Grand Prix"

EDIT: Opened a new thread for the hell of it. You will see in the top banner.
