That era of car is always one of my favourites at Goodwood in particular. The Beast of Turin I have watched many times (on YT etc) and just love the concept of the flames out of the engine exhaust, and the fact he drives it to meetings on the roads with no exhaust.
One thing I learnt in the cli was that the Beast of Turin (a Fiat S76) was actually discovered in Australia as a barn find! What the hell! A one of two built by Fiat for Land Speed records, with a 28 litre aero engine in it, and it turns up in an Aussie barn a hundred years later.(albeit without engine). Accredited as genuine by Fiat. Some of the other cars are brilliant too.... chain drive Bugatti with a 5 litre engine WTF.
And they dont spare the horses, racing with armfuls of opposite lock. Brilliant.

Another regular at Goodwood I love is the1928 Frazer Nash "Owlett" owned and driven by Patrick Blakeny-Edwards, Always driven with great verve.... here he is qualifying in the wet

Another car that is driven on the road.

If you want to know more about the Owlet, PBE takes us for a drive and tells us about one of the world's strangest race cars in this short video.

Motor Racing Legends // Saturday 30 October // LIVE STREAM from Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit

Live Stream starts at 11:35am BST
Motor Racing Legends returns to Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit to conclude the 2021 season.

This will be an end of season showcase event for Motor Racing Legends and where better to do it than on the breath-taking Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. There are few opportunities to race historic cars on this configuration so don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy one last race meeting before the season is out and for our UK racers, with the convenience of being on home turf.

The highlight will be the second edition of the Amon Cup 90 minute race for Ford GT40s plus the three-hour Royal Automobile Club Pall Mall Cup race for Pre-’66 GTs, Touring Cars and Fifties Sports Cars. This also features a class for Pre ’63 GT.

These races will be joined by the Jaguar Classic Challenge, and Touring Car race featuring four series of the Historic Touring Car Challenge, Tony Dron Trophy, Sixties Touring Car Challenge and U2TC. For 50s Sports Car and Sports Racing Car competitors there is a one-hour Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy and Stirling Moss Trophy race
– one last thrash before the long off-season.

I went to the Sandown Historics over the weekend. Saturday was great weather until the last race.... then the heavens opened. The paddock was flooded, I got drenched. But there was some good racing going on even if the fields were a bit thin compared to the usual. Certainly none of the overseas exotics we might usually see.

When I say the paddock was flooded...

Some cars though....

Anyway I have more photos I took, so I should probably post them in the photos area if anyone is interested.

No Ken was not here. We still have a quarantine difficulty with Kiwis needing to quarantine here on arrival and again on return arrival in NZ (two weeks each side) plus the Kiwi return needs any returnee to book their quarantine in advance, and the spaces are rare and allocated. ie not enough to go around, and at the moment and a delay before Kiwis can even think of returning.

Having said that they were talking of relaxing it a few days ago but not sure that it has happened yet. It is also making the Kiwi wildcard entry at the Bathurst 1000 in under 3 weeks time, for Greg Murphy and Richard Stanaway, unlikely to happen (They both live in NZ). More on that here: viewtopic.php?p=415274#p415274

Re Ken Smith sorry to report he has received a serious injury at home.... had a fall and has broken 7 ribs (some double breaks) and a punctured lung.

Wish Ken all the very best for a full and speedy recovery and hopefully see him back out on track sometime soon.
New Zealand motorsport legend Ken Smith is recovering after suffering a nasty fall at home.

The 80-year-old fell from a ladder early last week, leaving him with what was initially believed to be two broken ribs and a punctured lung.

It has since been discovered that Smith has seven broken ribs in total, including two with double breaks.

Smith is best known as a three-time winner of the New Zealand Grand Prix – an exclusive club he shares with Sir Jack Brabham, Stirling Moss, Craig Baird and Nick Cassidy.

His three triumphs came in 1976, 1990, and 2004.

Smith made his 50th NZGP start in the 2021 edition won by Shane van Gisbergen.

The 2022 New Zealand Grand Prix is due to take place at Hampton Downs on February 13.
