Fingers crossed! But I seriously don't think Australia can support a series like this. Maybe if it was a joint Aus/NZ thing?

Does anyone know what the cost is to run a season?
I think you can lease a car from Garry Rogers (who builds all the cars) for lets say A$250,000.... That includes the car lease deal with GRM, entry fees, and paying a team to transport and run the car. I dare say damage is extra. Not sure about rubber, but they are.apparently good on rubber and only use one set per round.

This article talks of $200,000 but is a year out of date so say 250K. It goes into the details more than I have.

Thanks for the link. I'm very surprised - quite affordable.

Depending on how detuned the engines are, I guess they don't have to push them too hard either.

The TCR 500km race at Bathurst has been cancelled again (to be replaced by some sprint races which will now become the TCR championship finale):

Oh dear. That seems a very backwards step to me.
Nine wont do it justice on FTA. Im sure they wont have much live coverage and they will slot it away as a highlights thing at some obscure hour. I hope im wrong.

Very late to hear (happened in late 2020), but I heard that Errol Gilmour died.

A good guy :(.

Very sad news that I was not aware of. It seems he had a brief battle with bowel cancer.
Certainly was one of the good guys. Started off as a "Dad and his lad" outfit and progressed from there to form Gilmour Racing

Some nice words about the man and his contributions, by Richard Craill, a former driver for what was affectionately known as "Team Errol"

VALE: ERROL GILMOUR

RIP Errol Gilmour

Richard's a former PR man (still might be, but he does more news and commentary now). He used to do the PR for Aus F3 the series and Team BRM.

I used to do the Gilmour's PR back in their early F3 days - 2006/7. Errol was incredibly nice :(.

At least S5000 should still be on Fox at four events this year (three Supercars rounds + the GP)

Hmmm they have just released the broadcast schedule for Race Tasmania this weekend, the opening round of the ARG series. The Stan Streaming coverage is ok, but not so good on Sunday for FTA.

FTA does ok on the Saturday but the Sunday broadcast finishes at 3pm, thus missing the final races for S5000, TransAm and TCR.
Stan Sport will broadcast action from Race Tasmania live and ad-free from 13:00-17:00 (local time/AEDT) on both Saturday and Sunday.

9Gem will provide a free-to-air offering from 15:00-17:00 on Saturday and 13:00-15:00 on Sunday.

That is at least 6 of the 9 TCR/S5000/TA2 races being shown live on FTA which is better then a lot of Supercars rounds. On the other hand there's no coverage at all of the other categories even on Stan, with FOX Supercars coverage you usually get at least the races of even the most minor support categories. Also unlike Supercars there's no practice coverage although I don't care too much about that.

Biggest ever grid at Bathurst (for any race) has to be a good sign.

Davison headlines capacity S5000 field for AGP

When I say capacity I mean all the available cars in Aus (17) rather than a capacity grid.

Among the new faces will be six-time Indianapolis 500 starter James Davison, the cousin of Supercars veterans Will and Alex Davison. He originally waas in (and practiced) for the 2020 S5000 support in the GP meet that was canned on the Friday.... the day the at the time new Covid thing first hit the motor racing world big time.

Other newcomers include Super2 Series stalwart Matt Chahda, Garry Rogers Motorsport teen Sebastien Amadio, Australian Formula Ford driver Conor Somers, and Hyundai Excel competitor Lee Stibbs.

Zane Goddard is back for a second straight round, while Nathan Herne returns to the GRM line-up having skipped Rounds 1 and 2 this year.

Two seats are listed as ‘TBA’, with GRM to announce the identities of those drivers later in the week.

Entry list: S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, Albert Park (Round 3)

Going from an Excel to a S5000 is one hell of a jump.
