Would it have been any worse then Sato-Heidfeld considering we're 16 years on?

I dont see how hitting the other car while on the ground would be fatal. It would be rear crash structure against radiator side impact structure and the whole vehicle that acts as deformable structure to dissipate energy. That is even before both cars hit the tyre bundles. Seems to me in general a more favourable crash than the one we witnessed.
In my books nothing of the car should leave the confines of the track. Granted that is neigh impossible with small debris but everything above the size of a tyre warrants a rethink of the safety configuration of the corner. Removing the sausage curb is an option as would be running the armco along the track edge line.

The rear of the car and gearbox would have hit the front end of driver's cell, missing the sidepod. Agree it probably wouldn't have been fatal.

Na we've heard nothing either other than the initial 'omg flying cars miracle escape!" headlines at the time.

It's the British media, they forgot about it at the end of the segment.

She posted on her Instagram account 50 minutes ago, that she's flying home today.

After the crash she went from some 20k followers to 155k followers.

Shot to fame, so to speak.
