That Lawson kid seems quick....

It's raining right now in the 3rd NZ V8 race, so the final TRS race of the weekend might be wet too.

Armstrong and Lawson went side by side through the final corner, down the main straight and through the first chicane. That was wild.

He looks good, although I am not sure how equal the cars are from team to team. Yes I know they are supposedly identical but some teams do a better job as we see in other junior formulae. Early days yet to be judging Lawson as on his way to F1, but I remember seeing Lando Norris doing well in TRS New Zealand a few years back. At just 16yo and given his successes in other series he has plenty of time on his side. (He is already the youngest ever champion of a major Euro based open Wheeler series)

Teretonga is this weekend, the wet first race saw Armstrong take an early lead after Lawson got a bad start but an SC brought them together again and those two had another good battle (with Petrov getting involved a little too). Armstrong went on to win in the end after Lawson had a couple of big slides.

And today's racing has been called off due to forecasts of 100 kmh wind gusts for today.

The New Zealand Grand Prix is this weekend, there's one race today per the above schedule (the Dan Higgins Trophy). The livestream should be on the Toyota Racing NZ channel.

There's also an extra entry for this round in the form of NZ legend Kenny Smith, a three time winner who's only 78 years old this year and who last won the race in 2004 when it was a Formula Ford race aged 63.

Not only is Ken a three time winner but I think this is his 48th New Zealand GP run. He is still running in F5000 here in Aus and NZ, and still winning races. A true legend, and a nice guy to boot. He is also very much involved in helping younger drivers make the grade.

Back to the event and this is the final round of the championship, with the title all to play for. Liam Lawson currently leads the title chase by just 5 points.

2019 Castrol Toyota Racing Series Points

1 Liam Lawson 278
2 Marcus Armstrong 273
3 Lucas Auer 225
4 Raoul Hyman 222
5 Esteban Muth 200
6 Brendon Leitch 187
7 Artem Petrov 181
8 Cameron Das 167
9 Calan Williams 152
10 Kazuto Kotaka 143
