Post by Andy »

It is this time again , the North West 200 is upon us

Starting with practice on Tuesday at the highspeed triangle circuit, BBC Northern Irelands website covers the entire event live worldwide again ! >>>> Read more at https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/northern-ireland/43991618

The Portstewart-Coleraine-Portrush triangle circuit provides slipstream battles at up to 320 km/h (Superbikes) down the first straight from Millroad Roundabout down to University Corner before shortcutting through the northern outskirts of Coleraine.
Image
The schedule is as follows :
Tuesday 15th May Practice 9.15am – 3.00pm
Thursday 17th May Practice 9.15am – 3.00pm
Thursday 17th May Evening Racing 5.00pm – 9.00pm
Saturday 19th May Race Day 9.15am – 7.00pm
Latest news are that Horst Saiger will have to give at miss as well as the TT, following a broken arm during one of the free practices to the 8h of Slovakia at Slovakiaring last week. In more good news, Ian Hutchinson will give his return to road racing after having recovered from a broken leg from his faller at the Gooseneck during the Senior TT last year.

It's going to be interesting with local heroes and record holder Alastair Seeley as well as Macao 2017 winner Glenn Irwin mixing it up again.
Stay tuned!

Somehow i find this event more fun than the Manx TT. Maybe the length and the fact that they start in groups so you get fights immediately.

It for sure is different to the TT/Manx but not less fun!
Before Monza was canned from WSB I used to refer to the better 'Monza' in regards of the NW200. If you liked Monzas slipstream battles this must give you the chills. At 300 km/h side by side on a thin country road, covered by trees down to University, it really does. Just too bad that the Mather's Cross chicane had been implented a while back. What a selecting bit of circuit that light right hand bend on the return to Portrush was, at almost 300 km/h again !

The TT, as is the Manx, are a completely different ballgame anyway. There are stretches where the superbikes hit speeds close to the NW200's (Sulby speed trap) but the only bit of road really reminding to the TT would be this from Portrushes left hander towards Church Corner, below the railways bridge towards start/finish and the Mill Road Roundabout. The TT however, and despite a complete different timing system (time trial), has right this bit of road on an on except for Sulby Straight, and even this bit of road ain't 'straight'. I`ve marshaled right there and it really ain't. At the 190 mph of SBK's I have my doubts that even the straight pieces look as one. ;)

Dutch rider Johan Frederiks came off past University Corner with another unnamed rider involved. According to a mate trackside, Johan broke his ankle and collarbone but is in good spirits otherwise.

What concerned me initially, was the report that he was flown out to Belfast since usually in case of minor injuries the much closer Coleraine hospital would be first choice.

Regarding the redflag in the supertwin session, Canadian Darren James came off but was only lightly injured and lifted off to Coleraine Hospital for further treatment.

Actually there is a Chrome app I have used before to access stuff on BBC. Called "Beebs" IIRC. I might give it a try.

Edit: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... efdllhajdi and it works for BBC and ITV streaming and anything on their iPlayer.

Well, I`m not sure when you have tried to follow the stream. If it's been after the live services from circuit had ended it would indeed be geolocked. Roads close in 50 min time and practices are supposed to ahead in 1h 20min. I`ll repost the link then and you could give it another try without the app.
