I'm still pretty amazed that it was ever even likely to happen.

Yeah seems like Veach decided to pull the pin immediately on hearing he was not being retained next year, feeling it was the best way for both sides to move on. I did not realise how many years he had been with Andretti, from F2000 right through.

A statement from Veach
"The decision was made that I will not be returning in 2021 with Andretti Autosport in the #26 Gainbridge car.

"This, along with knowing that limited testing exists for teams due to COVID, have led me to the decision to step out of the car for the remainder of the 2020 IndyCar season.

"I am doing this to allow the team to have time with other drivers as they prepare for 2021, and so that I can also explore my own 2021 options.

"This is the hardest decision I have ever made, but to me, racing is about family, and it is my belief that you take care of your family.

"Andretti Autosport is my family and I feel this is what is best to help us all reach the next step.

"I will forever be grateful to Michael [Andretti, team owner] and the team for all of their support over the years.

"I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for a relationship that started many years ago with Road to Indy.

"I will also be forever grateful to Dan Towriss for his friendship and for the opportunity he and Gainbridge have given me.

"My love for this sport and the people involved is unmeasurable, and I look forward to continuing to be amongst the racing world and fans in 2021."
As mentioned, Veach raced for Andretti Autosport in USF2000, Indy Pro 2000 (then called Star Mazda) and Indy Lights, finishing third in the 2014 Lights championship.

Since joining the team's IndyCar squad in 2018, his highlights have been fourth at Long Beach and fifth at Gateway in his rookie seasons, and a fourth place in the 2020 season-opener at Texas Motor Speedway.

Veach is currently 20th in this year's drivers' standings with 166 points, 13 clear of stablemate Marco Andretti

Veach can't cut it at IndyCar, certainly not in an Andretti car. Maybe a new team can turn it around. Depends on Gainsbridge staying with him for next year, I doubt anyone will pick him up without the sponsor money.

Seems like a nice kid, but nothing special at all behind the wheel.

I hope he gets some cash and goes to Juncos.

Hinchcliffe will replace Veach for the remainder of the season.

Askew has been sidelined due to medical issues; Helio Castroneves to replace him at the Harvest GP:

That would indeed be a bit shit. But I think the next couple of years will likely be a bit shit on general.

Uuuuuhhhh....no.

A statement of my belief that it shouldn't be used in vain.

I value the lessons I learned, unlike, apparently, some. ;)

I see at this weekends Indianapolis 'road' track double header the Andretti cars are all bearing a tribute to the long suffering Walkinshaw Andretti United V8 Supercars team in recognition of their having lived in a travelling bubble, away from family and loved ones as they have been returning home to Victoria due to quarantine issues.

As a Melbourne-based operation, WAU was forced to flee Victoria before its northern border closed on July 6 and has remained on the road ever since. It will be some 15 weeks by the time they return home from Bathurst.

It is currently domiciled in Adelaide at a City Motor Group facility before making the journey directly to Central West New South Wales for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 which commences just under a fortnight from now.

Image

Andretti Autosport’s tribute carries the WAU logo and hashtag, plus a ribbon reading ‘thank you’ and the names of the 19 crew members who have been away from base to help keep the Supercars season alive.

A nice touch that was appreciated by all the V8SC WAU crew.

Liberty Media has bought a minority stake in Meyer Shank Racing to help fund the team’s growing motorsports operations, including the recently announced multi-year Acura DPi program as well future expansion of the team’s IndyCar program.

“We have worked to build our IMSA and IndyCar racing programs step by step and this is another big progression for our organization to have Liberty Media make an equity investment in MSR,” said team co-owner Mike Shank. “Everything that we do is built on the partnerships that we’ve developed, and this program is no different. The investment by Liberty Media will enable us to continue to build and develop our programs.”

After starting in Formula Atlantics, Meyer Shank Racing moved its focus to sports car competition, and secured the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech team and driver championships. On the IndyCar front, the team is contesting its first full season this year following three part-time campaigns.
