35 cars confirmed: https://racer.com/2021/05/12/35-car-ind ... announced/

The third Coyne entry didn't make the cut. Ware won't be meeting the grater this year.

35 is OK in a pandemic year. I doubt we'll reach 40 any time soon anyway. 36-37 is probably where it'll be in the future.

As long as there are 34 cars I'm happy. Let the bumping begin.

Chilton has been out travelling and is not welcome back for this weekend, will not be missed.

Meanwhile, Andretti Autosport is on a roll with Rossi fastest in practice 1 and signing Herta on for 2 more years in between.

Nice.

Got to say, I'm surprised that JPM is last.

Also, Harvey is a gun in qualifying.

And great to see Dixon in 16th. Should make things interesting.

Got to say, I'm surprised that JPM is last.
JPM had his two fastest laps disallowed for "interference''.
Power had an expletive laden spin and stalled, bringing out the red and thus curtailing his day. He was complaining his car was undrivable, something to do with the ride heights.
Power returned to the pit lane where he threw his Hans device in disgust before launching into a 'passionate' discussion with his engineer .
“It’s got to be the front ride height, it’s got to be,” he exclaimed.

“There’s no way he’s running the same f*cking aero balance. No f*cking way…. I can’t f*cking drive it.”

Later, Power was interviewed where he explained the mid-session drama.

“I made a mistake just struggling with such a loose car,” he said on the broadcast.

“I would’ve been fined, just stalled, trouble with the clutch and stalled. Very frustrating.

“We could’ve just driven back into the pits and been fine, but unfortunately caused a red and you can’t continue.”

It’s the second time this season that Power has struggled in qualifying after failing to make it out of the first stage earlier this year on the streets of St Petersburg.

In that instance, he qualified 20th but fought back to finish eighth.

“At least we’re 12th, that’s better than St Pete, 20th,” said Power.

“I was very mad,” he said, making reference to the tirade.

“It’s just so crazy how the car can change so much from session to session. The second race on a road course we’ve had this.

“I think we would’ve been okay in that session had I not made a mistake, so I’m very frustrated at myself.

“When it’s that loose, it’s so hard. You’ve got to be so on top of the car.

“The rear just does never bite and it kept having big moments. It went off on the grass. My mistake. Not happy with myself.”

No doubt he read my comment recently where I said he seems to have reduced his whinginess level.... obviously decided to ramp it up a bit in response!

Everyone knows RoGro has the raw speed, that's never been his issue. Let's hope he can keep it together tonight!

Awful day for SPAM.

Perfect start for Grosjean, but we're under yellow because Conor Daly got stuck on the grass at T1 after minor contact and couldn't find a gear.
