The track is cool for sure and I don't doubt that something better will be coming, but there's nothing interesting about Scuderia Squadro Corsa Toro Rosso Forza bringing their spec Ferrari 458 to race against the same spec Porsche 911 GTWhatever for the 9th year in a row.

LMP1 is the fastest and is almost complete unsupported and 46 out of 62 entries are driving the same 3 cars. The lack of variety makes it dull.
You are kind of looking for flaws there, and I get it. There are downspells, but in the bigger picture in the history of Le Mans, this is, and will stay, the abnormal (but still pretty great IMO). It will be spellbinding for realz next year, I promise.
I'm not looking for flaws, I am just telling you what I see.

LMP2 is 25 cars and 22 of them are Oreca 07s. In the end does it matter which of them win? And will anyone other than Toyota win the Hypercar class this year?

Like I say, not bitching about the concept of the LM24h, but sad by how little there has been to interest me in the past few years or so.

Carnage. Half a dozen LMp 2 cars involved in a few different incidents as we had a sudden hit of rain.
Safety car.
Strange driving with dubious driving standards in at least one of them.

Very interesting situation with Sophia Flörsch BTW.

She's punted by another car, whilst the rain increases. And we get a camera right on her at that moment. Then we see her as she tries to get the car moving away from the racing line at the same moment as she is t-boned by another car. And finally, we get to see her communicate with the mechanics when she tries to salvage the car.

A very interesting view of what goes through a drivers mind in the moment of impact->in the panic of moving the car from a dangerous situation->their communication with the mechanics at base.

Great TV, sad ending for that car. Seems like their out as the G-meter means that Flörsch has to abandon ship and go to the medical centre.

Never knew of the G-meter ruling re if the 'medical' light illuminates it is game over. I know if they get out of the car and are more than a few feet from the car that is an end of day situation. It did not seem that the car was that badly damaged though difficult to see in the dark. It was certainly quite a jolt she got though.

It seems a bit strange to be pitch dark not that far into the race.... problem being 2 months later than usual I guess.

Full course yellow, because of what?

Becoming a very interesing race this, with all this intermittent rain.

Dude. Chill. I mean, the track is pretty cool.
PTRACER wrote: 2 years agoBarely any competition at the top level and the lower levels like GTE are filled with generic cars which are almost identical to cars at Le Mans 10+ years ago.
You are on to something there, but I mentioned in another thread a new dawn is coming. Next year Peugeot will be back to bring Toyota some more proper competition. And in 2023 Ferrari, Audi and Porsche as well. And more. The GT classes will be redefined with the GT3-based cars coming in in 2024, getting Le Mans and the WEC in line with the rest of the GT world.

The biggest issue IMO was that ACO mandated amateur classes some years ago. LMP2 was dumbed down at the same time that it was booming, and GTE-Am was brought in because hell do I know. Just because French amateurs were outcompeted, I guess.

After a few bleak years, it is looking up for Le Mans again. It is not the first time Le Mans has had a down period, so don't loose faith. It has always bounced back.

Said more or less the same thing earlier on in the thread. I'm not feeling it this year. The next couple of years should get better at least.

Question for the big sportscar fans: Will this development allow more manufacturers to come in? viewtopic.php?f=94&t=17254

OMG The #8 Toyota has slowed right up on track. Possible engine issue. Not sure he can get back to pitlane

Maybe they managed a Control Alt Delete fix... it seems to be running again at normal speed, albeit now a full lap down on the #7
