Better late than never, I suppose.
If the Clash, Duels, and Xfinity race are an indication, tomorrow's Daytona 500 may end up being "The Great American Snoozefest".

Yes, they should call it the Daytona 5 because it's only during roughly those last 5 miles (2 laps) that they actually get out of the single file choo choo train and attempt to pass.

I was planning on watching it because, well, it's the 500, but from what I've seen of the last week of racing, I'm not really sure it's worth it, to be honest...

I wont be as Foxtel have dropped NASCAR from our TV schedule for this year. No real loss to me as I only used to watch if I was bored and awake....

Sounds dire.
I haven't watched NASCAR in over a decade now really, not that I was ever *into* it.
But if the above is indicative of standard races, no wonder people are switching off in droves.

When the Stages rule was added something snapped in my interest in NASCAR. Stages, ok, but throwing a competition caution is BS. It cancels, like @SB83 wrote earlier, 495miles of the race. Because everything gets bunched up after every stage.

That wasn't too bad. If only they hadn't all the artificial rules.

Alonso to do NASCAR Road race??
Nothing confirmed at this stage, but following on from his car swap with Jimmie Johnson at Bahrain, in which he showed some pace he spoke highly of NASCAR.
Now Toyota are touting him as a chance for a NASCAR road race.

https://au.motorsport.com/nascar-cup/ne ... e/4339225/Wilson, the president and general manager of Toyota’s U.S. performance arm TRD, met Alonso at the launch of the new Toyota Supra road car in Detroit in January.
“He was there because of his association with our WEC team,” said Wilson. “He was on stage at the Supra launch with Akio [Toyoda, president of Toyota], who had a friendly jab at him ‘good luck in the Rolex 24 even though you’re not with us’ [Alonso won the race with Cadillac].
“We had dinner with him there one night, he’s looking at the entire horizon – I don’t think there’s anything that’s not a possibility for Fernando. Who knows?
“Putting him behind the wheel of a road course race, at Sonoma or Watkins Glen, that would be fun. I don’t know if it’s possible, but he’d be very interested – absolutely. It would be great for business.
“What he did [at the Rolex 24] was awesome. As a fan, I watched and I was compelled.”

Missed the start but caught the end of the first 'stage'. Nary a proper rally car in sight. Hmph!
Caught some of the middle laps but had to attend to some 'honey do's around the house. Sat down to watch the last 15-20 rounds. These guys are professionals? I've seen my last Daytona 500.

Not even bothered to watch. Thing is that the average age of the drivers is much lower than in the past. Plus the stages thing buckles up the field constantly.

My opinion was after the first red flag all the real drivers went home and the monkeys from the original Jumanji took over driving duties.
I am very sorry if you find my posts long and boring, I like to type and often go off on a tangent.

This years' Daytona 500 was the lowest rated race on record.

They have dropped NASCAR telecasts from the cable schedules here.... last year we got everything live from NASCAR. This year not even delayed coverage or highlights.
