Bottom post of the previous page:

@psosa @mcmirande
Pablo, Marcos, thanks for dropping by and thank you for your comments! It really helps motivate me to continue my work on this.

I have a few people onboard, but I'm happy for you to be a part of the test team as well. I'm currently in the process of fine tuning the final aspects of the tyre physics and will be releasing a tech demo sometime soon. If things go as planned, the tech demo will include one or two little surprises.

@LegendsOf67
It's not widely publicised, no. Around a dozen or so GPL'ers know about it. I kindly request that you don't post about it publicly on SRMZ yet, but if you have any friends over there (non-mod team), feel free to PM them and direct them over here.

--------------------
Today's update:- Found a way of changing the tyre stiffness depending on its pressure. In the original GPL, the peak slip angle can change by well over 2 degrees between 20 PSI and 26 PSI and over 3 degrees between 18 and 26 PSI. This is partly because of how much lower the tyre spring rates are at lower pressures. These differences might not sound a lot, but even one degree difference in peak slip angle is noticeable. I had noticed my tyre physics felt weird when the tyres were cold and it seems this was the cause.

This is still not the final version since I need to fix the texture warping (seems I have a lot to learn about 3DO editing), but I can at least say the hole in the Matra cockpit is basically fixed as is all the clipping that was happening behind it.

Image

The reason is because all bodywork ahead of the cockpit (highlighted in blue), plus the dashboard polygon itself (highlighted in yellow) were on the same subtree within the 3DO:
Image

This means that they are rendered at the same time causing clipping. By making the 13e58 tree a subtree of 10988, the dashboard polygon is now rendered first, and then the nose section afterwards, meaning the clipping is gone.

Reminder of how it looked in 67v2:

I wasn't planning on sharing this here but the MS5 is so close to being ready...

Simply amazing! The behaviour already looks noticeably different to anything else I've driven in GPL yet. Absolutely can't wait to get my hands on this.

I'm glad you guys like what you see! And I thank you for your patience as well. The longer I spend on this, the more knowledge I seem to "unlock", and then I'm able to make improvements in areas I never expected.

It's actually not too bad. The F2 car feels like a big go kart and it's really fun to drive. After all of my changes the cars feel a lot 'heavier' and more connected to the road. I would describe the original GPL cars as feeling quite highly strung and unpredictable, whereas these are rather the opposite. I think a lot of the lower skilled drivers in particular will find them easier to drive.

Continuing to make visual changes to the Matra F2 car. The dimensions are now much closer to the real one. I also modified the tyre widths a little. I may go a little narrower on the fronts but you can see where I'm going with this.

Great, Paul. The original was the narrow, isn't it?

Yes it was. In 1967v2, it is wider than most of the F1 cars, but now the dimensions are more like the Brabham BT11.

I didn't note it! And how is it in the F2 mod? I thought the graphics were exactly the same

Graphics wise, it seems the cars are identical in both mods.

Physics wise, the dimensions are also identical, but the F2 mod car weighs less. However due to the F2 mod and 67v2 mod using different grip coefficients/tyre slip curves, they will feel very different from each other.

A few small updates this week.

Firstly the Novice Trainer and Advanced Trainer engines have been decided. These will be the Cosworth SCA F3 engine and the 2.5L Climax FPF Tasman engine:
Image

Secondly, I have completely replaced all gear ratios with those found in the real cars. E.g. These for the Hewland HG 300 box which was used in the Brabham and perhaps other cars as well:
Image

The Lotus 49, as some of you will know, had a very limited selection of ratios. If Lotus wanted to change any ratios, they had to dismantle the whole rear end of the car. From what I read online, the 1965 ZF 5DS10 had fixed ratios internally and the only thing you could change was the CWP (final drive ratio). I'm not sure if the ZF 5DS12 used in the Lotus 49 was in the same situation, but anyway, I managed to find some ratios used by that box.
The ratios are as follows:

1st: 2.50/1
2nd: 1.765/1
3rd: 1.43/1
4th: 1.172/1
5th: 1.00/1
Final drive, 3.56/1, 3.00/1, 3.22/1, 3.40/1, 3.78/1, 4.00/1

So therefore, if you want a realistic experience with the Lotus 49, use the following ratios at all times and only modify the final drive.

1st - 10/25
2nd - 17/30
3rd - 14/20
4th - 29/34
5th - 20/20
Final drive - 10/40, 9/34 or 10/34.

For flexibility, all ratios are available for all gears at all times. If anyone knows what ratios were used in the Ferrari 312 or BRM that would be extremely helpful.

Dont know if this is any help @PTRACER

Maybe good for interest if nothing else. If you havent already seen it.

Got it from this link https://www.yourdatadriven.com/guide-to ... cing-cars/

As for specific ratios on say the 312 all I can find is : Variable and track dependent.

Lol during my searcI did find a full workshop manual at Hewland Classic on how to change the ratios on a Hewland FG or DG, but dont think that is any help :haha:

I have not but it sure looks useful!

The manual, not so much  Maybe someone like Doug Nye will have a ratio chart for the BRM....
And I bet the Ferrari data has never been published.

If you are able to tell me a list of gearboxes used in the 67 season that might also be helpful
