Favourite Songwriters

I'm thinking here in terms of pure songwriting talent, as opposed to instrumental/vocal prowess.

My favourites would include the following:-

Jackson Browne - essential listening for confused 30-somethings. A brilliant and insightful lyricist.

Bob Dylan - changed the face of rock songwriting.

Lennon/McCartney - enough said

Neil Young

Any other suggestions?

Tom Petty. Great storyteller.

I'm quite happy just listening to songs by Van Morrison, John Sebastian, Paul Simon and maybe Bob Dylan

I find Queen's love songs creepy.

Somebody To Love certainly isn't creepy, it's a masterpiece:

And Love Of My Life was awesome live, with the crowd participation etc.:

And although not written by Freddie, One Year Of Love is a great love song (unofficial video):

I like Paul Simon, Freddie Mercury, Tommy Boyce, Bobby Hart, don't forget about Neil Diamond, some of Michael Nesmith's works, and some of Bob Dylan's works.

Radio Ga Ga was written by Roger Taylor, not Freddie Mercury.

My mistake Paul, so stunned by that underwhelming performance was I, I just never took the time to investigate who was at fault for that assault on my ears...
